Blepharitis
Blepharitis is a chronic, nonspecific inflammation of the eyelid margin. It is associated with dry skin, seborrheic dermatitis of the eyebrows and scalp and acne rosacea. Bacterial infection, particularly with the staphylococcus organism, is a common finding. The lid margins are red, thickened and crusting of eyelashes characteristically is present.
Good hygiene consisting of warm compresses and lid scrubs along with antidandruff shampoo is the mainstay of treatment. Topical antibiotics are often necessary in moderate to severe cases. This condition tends to be chronic and recurrent.
